Discuss whether or not the creation of the Military Tribunal was legal. Interpret the Military Tribunal through the viewing of the movie Nuremberg. IV. V. Materials: Textbook, pens, pencils, notebook, laptops, worksheets, movie Nuremberg. VI. Procedure: a. Intro/Motivation: At the start of class I tell the students that today we are going to learn, discuss, and debate about how the Nuremberg Trials came to be. They will be broken up into 4 groups. Each group will research how the trials came into existence, and the legal ramifications of them. Afterwards, we will conduct a classroom debate. Two groups will be for the creation of the Military Tribunal and two groups will be against the creation. b. Developmental Activities: The class is broken up into four groups, each of which will research the creation of the Military Tribunal. The aim of the first to groups will be to support the creation of the Tribunal. The aim of the last two groups will be to give reason as to why the Tribunal should not be created by way of legalities and law. The groups will use the attached graph to assist them. c. Closure: The end of class will be dedicated to watching clips of the movie Nuremberg. In watching this movie the class will get an idea of how the trial was conducted, and will also learn some important facts and dates. This will carry over from the previous days class. VII. Adaptations: If the allotted class time is insufficient to watch the movie, it will be postponed until tomorrow or when time allows. VIII. Evaluation: a. Student: Students completion of worksheet will be used as an evaluation and will count towards the class participation grade. b. Teacher: The worksheet and debate will be used as a barometer to gauge the success of the lesson. IX. Follow-up: Students will use todays research and movie in conjunction with tomorrows research to prepare for the mock trial.
